“I tried, but I miss myself.”
This could be the title of me living in Germany, working in tech, or the season in my life that I’m gently closing.
But this post is about more.
It’s about choosing people, environments, and stimuli that feel nourishing - emotionally, financially, and humanly.
It’s about saying it out loud when you’ve tried it all, done it all which was within your capacity, and it’s time to make a different choice.
Quitting is not a failure. It’s a skill, a conscious choice to stop an unproductive cycle and step into the new.
For me, the big shift was my birthday.
It’s a year away from a big milestone, and as I was approaching it sth clicked.
I can postpone making decisions, I can find another way to make it work, I can explain it to myself and everyone else that I can adapt - but why would I?
I imagined what life would be a year from now when I make a different choice.
And what would it be when I continue what I’m doing today?
Would I like my life if it was the same as of today?
The shift did not start with a single big decision.
It consisted of multiple small, and subtle shifts.
A few weeks ago I wrote about circles, and how to break patterns that seemingly keep coming back throughout your life.
First, I simply chose differently. I did not know what the outcome will be, but I knew what will happen if I follow the path that I did the last time, and before.
It felt less risky than quitting it all, and going changing abruptly.
I’ve done so many transitions in my life, and I guided even more for others, that this time I was truly curious about a conscious transition.
The one that is quiet, happens under the surface, without any big dramas, and the needles move almost moment by moment.
You stop engaging in conversation that are not for you anymore.
You don’t reacting harshly or at all to what you used to.
You make peace with what could have been and won’t.
You let go of resentment and forgive for the hurt.
You see yourself unfiltered and take responsibility for your share.
You feel gratitude for all what you got and gave.
The letting go invisibly fades and transitions into the new chapter.
You unsubscribe from the job alerts.
You check out a new area.
You try out a new platform.
You join a new community.
You start doing all the things you’ve planned - and you finally do them now.
Not one day when… But now.
You notice subtle shifts everywhere.
Because when you brake a cycle, it won’t happen in isolation.
It will spread and flow into other areas of your life.
The projects that interest you will be different.
The people around you will change.
All that you need to do is paying attention.
Be aware, and see how the Universe is shifting the world after you were courageous enough to state your truth and set the direction.
Once you made the decision, everything else will align.
It won’t be right, or wrong.
It will simply be aligned.
The parts that were all around in the messy middle, seemingly without any connections between them - now all seem to get organized.
They all fall into place.
The people you meet.
The invitations you receive.
The inner calling that arise.
All you need to do now is follow through.
Take the steps that you mindfully planned, one at a time.
All will reveal itself as you focus on the task in front of you.
Stop checking whether you’ve arrived yet.
All that matters is that you’re on the path.
Walking the less traveled road.

“When it comes to quitting, the most painful thing to quit is who you are.”
― Annie Duke, Quit: The Power of Knowing When to Walk Away
“When people quit on time, it will usually feel like they are quitting too early, because it will be long before they experience the choice as a close call.”
― Annie Duke, Quit: The Power of Knowing When to Walk Away
“The moment you walk away from uncertainty, you began walking toward yourself — no longer shrinking to fit someone else's maybe, but expanding into the full truth of what you deserve.”
